Sustainable Cooling Concept for TRUMPF Laser in the Sheet Metal Processing. Use of an eChiller45 for cooling a laser cutting system in singleitem production.
The wish of the regionally based machine and vehicle parts manufacturer was to replace the previous traditional cooling of the TRUMPF laser with a “green” and at the same time more energy-efficient cooling solution. The performance requirement for the sustainable concept was cooling of the 2D laser cutting machine with 10kW laser power, which is used in two-shift operation in a single-item production.
In February 2021, the eChiller was installed next to the TRUMPF laser in the production hall. This is possible because the legal requirements according to DIN EN378 do not apply to water as a refrigerant. The laser cutting system runs Ø 82 h per week. In the first year, the eChiller already achieved an energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 7.8 for the entire system, including pumps and recooler.
Over a period of two years, the eChiller delivered a cooling capacity of Ø 17.5 kW / h. The chiller impresses with an energy efficiency value of 7.3, which is more than twice as high as the previous cooling system. Thanks to the eChiller, Krämer was able to save annually an average of 14 MWh of energy and to reduce 5.9 t of CO2 emissions per year.
